Our Mission
Our mission is to improve home monitoring support for infants with complex congenitial heart disease through:
- A better experience for parents and healthcare professionals.
- Increased parental empowerment and understanding.
- Improved clinical outcomes for the babies.
Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) occurs in 60.9 out of every 10,000 births. Approx. 1/3 of these babies are born with complex CHD which requires urgent life-saving surgery, often within the first weeks of life.
Infants are typically discharged after their first surgery with a home monitoring programme. It is at this time when young infants are at their most vulnerable, to condition deterioration or death. This is due to:
- A lack of parental knowledge
- A lack of clear pathways to hospital advice and care
- Inadequate understanding in community health professionals
This is a very frightening time for new parents. The immense responsibility of caring for a sick, vulnerable baby at home can be terrifying.
